Duality

Its is remarkable how one person can be incredibly sensitive to their own experiences and completely insensitive to others’.

This attitude can stem from a cold and detached upbringing, where parents showed little emotional involvement in their child’s feelings. For example, a son might have cursed at his father out of anger, and the father would respond by turning away and not speaking to him for one or two months. In such an environment, the child is forced to constantly confront his own feelings: first anger, then guilt, followed by fear. Lacking “access” to the emotions of the adults around him, he inadvertently develops excessive self-focus.

There are also parents who overwhelm their children with emotions, which often leads to insensitivity towards others. The child becomes accustomed to receiving only intense emotional reactions from those around him. Emotions of moderate intensity are perceived as insincere, fake, and suspicious.
